The Honourable Steven Point

In Celebration of National School Library Day and First Nations' literacy, the Carson Library hosted the Honourable Steven L Point, the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. His Honour addressed an assembly of approximately 800 people from the Carson community with a strong message in support of literacy. "Literacy is about sharpening your mind," he said, "sharpening your axe to cut down the trees of ignorance."
—The Honourable Steven Point, 28th Lieutenant Governor of The Province of British Columbia at Carson Graham Secondary on National School Library Day, October 27th, 2008
From the District Website:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for so many of our students to meet such an inspiring and accomplished person,” says Jennifer Tieche, Teacher-Librarian at Carson Graham. “The Lieutenant Governor embodies the pursuit of learning and appreciation of literature we encourage with our students.” “We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase the importance of high-quality school library programs,” says Kathryn Shoemaker, chair of the B.C. Coalition for School Libraries. “National School Library Day honours the connection between student success and the essential work of school libraries to promote the freedom to read, foster inquiry and further knowledge.”
